Shoots!

So I have a bunch of shoots booked, including one for TOMORROW :D

Some people have asked what I do to prepare for shoots, so I think I'll just do a little blog on how I've prepared for my shoot tomorrow!

1st: about a month ago, the photographer contacted me saying he'd be in town and would love to shoot with me. ME and this photographer have worked a few more times together, and some of our work can be seen published in Cynical Fashion Magazine:

2nd: After he told me where he'd be staying and the locations we'd have at our disposal I went onto my pinterest to design a mood board. What I do to find inspiration is use key words from the locations like: Pool - Photoshoot - Model -

Then I gather these ideas into a pin board.

3rd: As I look for ideas I consider the following:

What do I like about these pictures?

What resources do I have access to? (Clothes, jewelry, location, makeup, etc)

Do I want to re-create this or just take parts from it?

Does my team have the abilities to re-create or emulate what I like in these images?

What is my goal with these images? (Publications, etc)

What do I need to reach the goal? (Requirements, themes, etc)

4th: Now this is still weeks in advance, but now I have a solid idea, and goals that are realistic and ready to go, I share this info with the rest of the team and get their input and make changes accordingly. Once the idea is solid I can start organizing my wardrobe! I like to keep all wardrobe pieces separate from my styling inventory, so I keep a suitcase with all my favorite pieces, or things I haven't shot in yet on it's own. Then I sometimes share images of these pieces with the rest of the team to gather more input and also to double check I still fit comfortably. This is also an opportunity to test out poses and movement in the pieces to make sure I can re-create the poses I have planned.

5th: Once I'm solid and my team is ready to go, I can relax until about 3/4 before. This is about the time I'll start to focus on maintaining my skin, hair and nails to focus on the shoot. When I have many shoots in and around the same time I'll keep this up regularly, but I am a face touch-er, so I am normally on the ball for my skin, but I'll go out of my way to make sure I don't drink coffee or red wine, I avoid bruises, scratches, hickies, etc or getting bug-bites, and sunburns. I'll also avoid heavy makeup or mascara to prevent breakouts or thinning of my lashes, and always remember that if you're getting your hair styled for a shoot, don't clean it the night before, let there be at least a day's worth of hold left in it! Clean hair is awful to work with!

Some tips:

No coffee-No red wine-No grape juice-No cranberry juice

Brush your teeth 2x a day

Wash your hair 2 days before the shoot

Avoid heavy makeup

Clean your face 2x a day (Oily skin)/1xday (Normal/sensitive skin)

Get 5-8 hours sleep

Don't eat anything that will make you feel bloated 24 hours before the shoot (you'll be uncomfortable)

6th: The day of the shoot (or day before in this case) is the double check day, double check with all the team that everything is still a go, all the wardobe is good to go, inspiration is still inspiring, and I'm still super excited! AND I AM!

So stay tuned and probably watch my snap story tomorrow to see all the awesome behind the scenes!
